Why should I buy Crimsafe security screens?
Massive Performance Difference
The difference in performance between a Crimsafe® screen and an ordinary security mesh product is huge. Crimsafe® actually repels the physical assault that a burglar or intruder would apply and Crimsafe resists attempts to cut through it like no other security screen. Want proof? We will soon post video examples of our products being tested at the Australian Defence Force Academy Testing Factility, to the most rigorous levels that you can imagine. And we will post videos of competing products, bought straight from the competitors manufacturers, failing those same tests. 5 more differences between Crimsafe® and the rest of the "me too" products: 1. We use Structural Grade 304 stainless steel. Others use 316 Marine steel. 304 has a higher tensile strength than 316, meaning it can resist more force applied against it and is highly effective against knife attack. Uncoated Marine steel has a higher resistance to corrosion when immersed in salt-water, but our specially developed black powdercoating gives our 304 Structural Grade mesh rust resistance far beyond that of raw Marine steel. 2. We use thicker mesh. You get more metal for your money. The strands of mesh in Crimsafe® are 0.9mm thick. Others are 0.8mm. This means even though the difference cannot be seen with the naked eye, our mesh is actually 26.5% thicker than the others and correspondingly stronger 3. You don't pay extra for a midrail. A mid-rail through your security door reinforces it by stiffening the door frame, strengthens the resistance of the door's lock against a jemmy attack, protects the hinges of your door by reducing a criminal's ability to lever it from the wall and acts as a visual warning that prevents you from walking through an apparently open space. And they come standard with Crimsafe® doors. 4. Specially developed antistatic coating. The black coating of Crimsafe® actively repels the build-up of dust and impurities that can make your screens look dirty. It was developed in conjunction with Dulux and makes Crimsafe® the only commercial grade UV fade-resistant screen. Crimsafe® licensees also sell a specially developed anti-static glove that can be used to clean the mesh. 5. Santoprene Frame Bead. The unique design of the insulating Frame Bead ensures that dirt and grime will not build up on the edge of the screen frame. The angled Santoprene rubber allows rainwater to wash away airborne particles that build up on the screen and stops it collecting on the top edge of the screen frame. Therefore eliminating any chance of the dissimilar metals being connected and in turn stopping electrolysis from occurring.
How can I be sure I'm buying Crimsafe?
There are 4 ways to be sure.
1. Stan Bond is a Licensed Crimsafe Reseller. We do not sell any other Stainless Steel Mesh security doors. If you buy from Stan Bond you can be 100% Guarenteed the product is a genuine Crimsafe Door. 2. Call Crimsafe® on 1800 688 188 and query the name of the manufacturer. They can tell you in short order whether the person you're dealing with is an approved licensee or not. 3. Crimsafe® is the only security screen in the world which features screws drilled through the frame and the mesh, to lock it in place. Ask to see a cross-section sample and check for the screws going through the frame and mesh. 4. Crimsafe® licensees use a type of screw that is unique to Crimsafe®, so that burglars cannot simply unscrew your screens from the wall. The screws sit flush in the Crimsafe® frame and they look like this:
Does Crimsafe rust?
No. Crimsafe® mesh does not rust. It is made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel which has a lifespan of approximately 65 years and then it is coated in a secret formula with special additives to be totally corrosion resistant. It is only airborne impurities that build up on the surface of the mesh and frame that may oxidise and change colour.
And when you give your screens a quick clean in accordance with our Care and Maintenance Guide, you will have no problem from airborne impurities like salt or dust. To make cleaning even quicker, you should purchase some of Crimsafe®'s Wash & Wax cleaner and also the specially designed Ha-Ra glove from Stan Bond.
Is there a Warranty with Crimsafe products?
Yes. Crimsafe® products kept clean in accordance with our Care and Maintenance Guide are warranted to be free from defect for a period of 10 years from the date of installation. This Warranty is non-transferable.
If you experience a problem of any kind, please phone Stan Bond on (08) 8336 2066 report the problem. Make sure that you have your proof of purchase and Warranty with you, as these are required to make a Warranty claim.
Crimsafe Testing
Proven Security - Crimsafe® passes all Australian and Industry Standards Tests
On this site you'll see we mention the fact that Crimsafe® passes a lot of Australian and Industry Standards tests. But what are these tests, and what do they mean for you? They mean you can trust Crimsafe® because the product range as a whole passes more tests than any competing product range. There are two types of standards: the Australian Standards, laid down by Standards Australiawww.standards.com.au and Industry Standards, which are commonly accepted tests within the security screen industry that have not been given official status by Standards Australia. Australian Standard AS 5039-2008 Security Screen Door and Security Window Grilles is the main product standard, and it calls up AS 5041-2003 Methods of Test - Security Screen Doors and Window Grilles, which specifies the following tests: The Industry Standards that Crimsafe® passes are:
Crimsafe ® also scores highly on these "Rating Only" Industry Standards Tests Each of these tests ensures that Crimsafe® won't fail in a particular security application. Click on the name of the test to be taken to Crimsafe's website and detail of the tests.
Crimsafe - Fire Attenuation
Crimsafe® - Fire Attenuation
1. What is Fire Attenuation? Fire attenuation is the reduction of radiant heat and spread of flame - Fire Attenuation is not the same as bushfire protection, fire rating or fire resistance. 2. When can I quote Crimsafe® for a Fire Attenuation job? A project that requires Fire Attenuation screens should have a Fire Safety Report (FSR) from a Fire Engineer or Certifier, that the Builder or Developer would provide to a Crimsafe® Licensee at their request for a quotation. The FSR will specify what products can be used to protect the building from fire. If no FSR is provided to the Licensee when requested to submit a quote, then the job should not be quoted. 3. When is Fire Attenuation required? The Building Code of Australia (BCA) requires any openings within 3m of a fire source to be protected and any openings within 6m of another building on the same allotment to be protected. The amount of attenuation screening required depends on the transmitter and receiver buildings and each building will have a particular fire load depending upon its use. 4. Who can sign off on a Fire Attenuation job? Crimsafe® has been tested for fire attenuation and has achieved 45% attenuation (the CSIRO test report is available on request). However, it is not possible for a Crimsafe® Licensee to provide a report, pro forma or certificate to cover fire attenuation. Each fire attenuation job needs to be individually assessed and a Fire Safety Report supplied. Final approval of the installation will be from the Building Certifier or the Fire authority of the state ie: Queensland Fire & Rescue. 5. Who can specify Crimsafe® for Fire Attenuation? Only a Fire Certifier or Fire Engineer can put Crimsafe® forward as an "alternative solution" for use as a Fire Attenuation screen, based on the information from the CSIRO Test Report, their assessment of the building they are working on and the level of fire risk or potential risk around the building. 6. How are Fire Attenuation screens installed? The installation of Fire Attenuation screens is different for every project and depends on the opening being covered, the building materials being used and the geographical location of the project. The Fire Safety Report provided by the Fire Engineer / Certifier that specifies where the screens can be used, will also outline how to install the screens. The Crimsafe® Licensee must install the screens as per the exact specifications as the Fire Safety Report. If the installation method is impractical or unviable, an alternative is to be discussed with the Fire Engineer / Certifier and the installation only to be completed when changes are confirmed in writing. 7. Are there critical installation detail for Fire Attenuation screens? All installation details for Fire Attenuation screens must be as per the Fire Safety Report provided by the Fire Engineer / Certifier. However, it is critical that the fixing screws of every screen, go through the frame, the stainless steel mesh, the screw clamp and then into the sub-frame or substrate. The fixing screws must go through the mesh so that in the event of a fire, if the aluminium frame melts away, the fixing screws will hold the mesh in place as long as possible. 8. Is there any paperwork required for Fire Attenuation? Upon completion of the screen installation, the Building Certifier may require the Builder to provide specific documents for various parts of the overall building, in some states this may entail the Fire Attenuation screens. Each Licensee must discuss with the Builder or Developer about what they are signing and what ramifications it will mean to their business.
Crimsafe - Bush Fire Protection
Crimsafe® - Bush Fire Protection
What is Bush Fire Protection? Bush fire Protection is the protection of buildings, as specified in the Australian Standard AS3959-2009 "Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas", against burning embers, radiant heat or flame generated by a bushfire. 2. When is Bush Fire Protection required? Bush fire protection under AS3959-2009 is required on sites where the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) has been determined as one of the six levels of risk; 1. BAL - Low 2. BAL - 12.5 (protection from ember attack and radiant heat up to and including 12.5kW/m²) 3. BAL - 19 (protection from ember attack and radiant heat greater than 12.5kW/m² up to and including 19 kW/m²) 4. BAL - 29 (protection from ember attack and radiant heat greater than 19 kW/m² up to and including 29 kW/m²) 5. BAL - 40 (protection from ember attack, increased likelihood of flame contact and radiant heat greater than 29kW/m² up to and including 40 kW/m²) 6. BAL - FZ (protection from flame contact, together with ember attack and radiant heat of more than 40 kW/m²) 3. How can Crimsafe® resist attack from burning embers? The Australian Standard AS3959-2009 requires screening of openings to be made of corrosion resistant steel, with an aperture size that will not allow a circular probe of 2mm diameter to pass through. Crimsafe 304 grade, 0.9mm Tensile-Tuff ® Stainless Steel Security Mesh has an aperture size of 1.5mm x 1.5mm and therefore automatically complies with the standard. 4. Can Crimsafe® be used in all BAL's? In general Crimsafe® screens can be used in all Bushfire Attack Level's on all windows, hinged, bi-folding and sliding doors. The only exception is BAL-FZ where Crimsafe® screens could only be used on a window system that has been tested to a Fire Rating Level of -/30/- OR complies with AS1530.8.2 when tested from the outside. 5. Where else in a building can Crimsafe® screens be used for Bushfire Protection? Apart from windows and doors, Crimsafe® can also be used to protect decks / patio enclosures, evaporative cooling units, skylights, gable & roof vents, weep holes, enclosing subfloor areas and for use as a gutter and roof valley leaf guard. 6. How do you install Crimsafe® for Bush Fire Protection applications? 1. Depending on the BAL either the opening section of the window or the full opening is required to be screened. Refer to the Construction detail for each BAL as per AS3959-2009. 2. Screens must be installed in accordance with the Australian Standard AS5040-2003 "Installation of security screen doors and window grilles" OR as per the Crimsafe® Installation Manual. 3. Metal fixings must be used. NOTE: Even though the screens may be specified as a Bushfire screen, as a default they will be providing a high level of security screening, solar shading & insect resistance. However, in the case of a fire they will provide protection from ember attack, reduction of radiant heat and protection of the glazing from the impact of flying debris. This should be considered when specifying and installing the screens. Frame Colours
