What are Sunscreen Blinds?
Roller Blinds are often called by many names including Holland Blinds, Shades, Roller Shades, Roll Down Blinds and Sunscreen Blinds. This last name often causes confusion so here is a simple explanation of what a Sunscreen Blind is and what function it provides. Sunscreen fabrics are a mesh fabric that allows vision through the fabric. The fabric is perfect for rooms heavily exposed to the sun, to reduce the glare and heat coming through the window. The fabric is often used in living areas where allowing light and vision through the window helps to make the room feel open and airy. This is especially useful where the room is quite small as is common in courtyard homes, townhouses and apartments. Sunscreens fabrics are available as Roller Blinds, Roman Blinds, and Panel Glides but confusingly when used on a Roller Blind are often referred to as either Sunscreen Blinds or Sunscreen Roller Blinds.
Sunscreen Blinds have one distinct disadvantage – at night time people can see into your home. You always see to the side of the blind that is most well lit. In the day this is most commonly outside but at night it is inside. This means people can see through your sunscreen blinds. To overcome this problem Stan Bond offers Dual Roller systems often called Combo Blinds. Combo Blinds allow for both a Block out Fabric and a Sunscreen Fabric blind to be mounted in one window. This allows the flexibility of both full block out and privacy with the block out fabric down, and light and vision during the day with just the sunscreen fabric down.
